Iran Warns US of Risks Amid 2026 World Cup Tensions

The Iranian state news agency has issued a warning to the US, highlighting significant risks linked to the ongoing strikes on Iran as the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches. This caution comes as tensions between the two nations escalate.

According to Nour News, a source associated with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, the US’s dual approach of military pressure and negotiations could pose a serious threat. The agency stated, “If the USA is depending on controlling oil and reducing gas prices before the World Football Championship, they should realize that simultaneous military pressure and negotiations with Iran is a significant risk. Any mistake could turn President Trump into a symbol of an expensive and regrettable error, remembered painfully at every World Cup.”

This statement comes in the wake of renewed US attacks on Iran. On Monday, the US targeted missile launch sites and Iranian boats that were attempting to deploy mines, as confirmed by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesman for CENTCOM, told Newsweek, “US forces executed self-defense strikes in southern Iran today to safeguard our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces. The targeted sites included missile launch locations and Iranian vessels attempting to lay mines.”
