White House Criticizes Journalist Over Remarks on Natalie Harp
The tension between the White House and journalists continues as the administration sharply criticized journalist Aaron Rupar for his comments about Natalie Harp, a close aide to President Trump.
Rupar shared a photo of Harp at a welcome event for Trump in Dublin. He captioned it, “Look who made the trip to Ireland! #TravelWithNatalie.” The White House’s Rapid Response 47 account reacted strongly, labeling Rupar as a “sick, deluded freak.”
“President Trump does, in fact, travel with staff,” the account stated, criticizing Rupar’s post.
Rupar replied to the criticism by highlighting the unusual nature of the White House’s response, specifically noting the mention of his age.
Natalie Harp has been a consistent figure beside Trump for years. Her role gained attention after Senator Jon Ossoff highlighted it, criticizing Trump’s work habits. Rupar, well-known for his criticism of Trump, has posted about Harp frequently.
Ossoff described Trump as preferring travel with Harp on what he termed a “defenseless flying palace,” linking it to past incidents involving Harp accompanying Trump during secretive plane exchanges due to security threats.
The White House defended Harp vigorously. “Natalie Harp is one of the most loyal and hardest working aides on President Trump’s team,” spokesperson Davis Ingle asserted, while also critiquing Ossoff’s legislative choices.
Legal and ethical concerns emerged following financial disclosures revealing Trump gifted holiday bonuses to Harp and other aides. The White House stressed these were permissible gifts, unrelated to official duties.
Kristen Holmes, a CNN correspondent, also faced criticism from the White House after questioning Trump regarding Ossoff’s statements. Trump responded, dismissing Ossoff’s comments and emphasizing the ongoing improvements at the White House.
Harp, aged 35, is a prominent figure in Trump’s circle. Her journey began after she praised Trump’s “Right to Try” legislation during a public appearance, linking it to her recovery from Stage 2 bone cancer. Her advocacy for experimental treatment shaped her public image and political career.
Harp held a role in Trump’s 2020 campaign advisory board and spoke at the Republican National Convention. Her profile grew within Trump’s team, especially during the 2024 campaign, where she was recognized for her efficient assistance.
After Trump’s return to the presidency, Harp was appointed executive assistant to the president. She is frequently seen alongside him during official trips and events worldwide.
