The search for a new James Bond has begun, and former Bond girl Alison Papworth has expressed her opinion on the matter. According to her, the role should remain with a male actor. Papworth, known for her roles in For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy, shared this view with Fox News Digital. “I think it would be very strange if it were a woman,” she remarked.
The news of the search comes after Amazon MGM Studios took creative control of the James Bond franchise in 2025. They formed a joint venture with Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the franchise’s long-time producers. In May, the studio announced that Denis Villeneuve would direct the next installment, while Steven Knight would handle the screenplay.
“Jack, it’s been rumored that he’s on the shortlist,” said actor Gary Oldman regarding Jack Lowden, his co-star in “Slow Horses,” when speaking on “The Morning Show.”
Papworth also shared fond memories of her time working with Roger Moore. She described him as “an absolute gentleman” who was “funny and told the best jokes.” Her tenure as a Bond girl provided her with unique experiences, such as being flown first class to Rio de Janeiro and sampling caviar for the first time.
Papworth didn’t expect to be part of two Bond films. She recalled a moment when Barbara Broccoli surprised her with an invitation to appear in another Bond movie. This opportunity not only advanced her career but also brought her lasting friendships.
After a successful stint in films, Papworth transitioned to a career in interior design. She became the director at Camhall Design & Consultancy, an interior design company active in parts of the UK, the US, and the Bahamas.
Beyond her professional life, Papworth collaborates with friend Joan Collins to support charitable causes, such as Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. These efforts reflect her continued engagement with the community and the lasting impact of her former career in show business.
Today, Papworth balances her career with personal interests, occasionally participating in autograph signings and maintaining a connection with her past as a Bond girl.
