Ms. Rachel, a popular children’s YouTube star, recently accused celebrities and leaders of racism for their silence on the deaths of Palestinian children in Gaza. She argued that the lack of advocacy reflects a racial double standard in how children’s lives are valued.
Rachel Griffin Accurso, known as Ms. Rachel, made these claims on Instagram, suggesting that public figures would speak out if the children involved were of different ethnicity or from another region. She urged them to address the issue, stating, “They probably would say something if these kids were White and from a different place. Please stop being racist and risk something.”
A recent confrontation between Accurso and podcaster Avi Lichtschein highlighted concerns about her portrayal of the conflict between Israel and Hamas as a “genocide.” Lichtschein warned that the vast reach of Accurso’s audience necessitates careful consideration of the tone and consequences of her rhetoric. “When you have an audience as enormous as hers, you have a responsibility to understand the consequences of the claims you’re amplifying,” Lichtschein said.
Accurso categorized celebrities and leaders into two groups: those who have publicly condemned the deaths of over 20,000 Palestinian children in the ongoing conflict and those she argues remain silent, implying their indifference due to racial bias. “Those who are willing to shout at the top of their lungs that over 20,000 Palestinian children shouldn’t have been killed in the Gaza genocide and those that remain silent because these children are not worth it to them,” Accurso stated. “I see that you have a hierarchy of children’s lives.”
Accusations of genocide have been fueled by a report from the United Nations’ Independent International Commission of Inquiry, which documented the deaths and injuries of Palestinian children since the Hamas attacks in October 2023 up to March 31. The report asserted that Israeli forces targeted children intentionally, forming part of what the commission described as genocide. Simultaneously, the report noted Hamas’ treatment of Israeli children—indicating 40 Israeli children were killed, with hundreds more injured or abducted during the attacks.
Israel, however, rejected the commission’s findings, criticizing its methodology and claiming significant flaws and omissions. Ms. Rachel’s stance continues to attract scrutiny amid her frequent use of the term “genocide” to characterize the conflict.
Accurso has been under increasing scrutiny for her activism regarding Israel, with allegations of promoting antisemitism. In January, she reportedly liked a controversial Instagram comment by mistake. She later apologized, emphasizing her commitment to fighting hate and antisemitism.
Her activism is rooted in compassion for all children, rejecting claims that her focus on Palestinian children implies a disregard for Israeli children. Accurso maintains her opposition is directed not at Israel itself, but at its government and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Critics, such as Elizabeth Barcohana of the California Republican Party, have condemned Ms. Rachel’s behavior as “fake” and selective. Barcohana claimed that Accurso is “sanitizing terrorism” under the guise of education for children, warning parents of the danger in following her content.
Barcohana stated, “Ms. Rachel is a radical jihadist activist pretending to be an educational content creator, with alarming access to millions of children worldwide.” She accused Ms. Rachel of acting as a spokesman for Hamas by using figures from Hamas sources to depict child deaths.
This controversy has sparked further discussion surrounding the responsibility of influencers in shaping public opinion. Fox News Digital reached out to several organizations for comment but has yet to receive a response.
