President Donald Trump plans to visit Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for a medical checkup on Tuesday. This marks his third visit in little over a year. The White House had previously announced the annual dental and health checkup earlier this month, referring to a May 11 statement when contacted by Newsweek.
During his tenure, Trump often questioned former President Joe Biden’s health. Now, as he serves in office again since January 2025, he faces similar inquiries about his own health. His officials assert that he is in excellent health, but some medical professionals remain skeptical about the nearly 80-year-old president’s condition.
April 11, 2025: First Physical of Second Term
Shortly after resuming office, Trump underwent an annual physical exam at Walter Reed. This exhaustive exam spanned about five hours and included bloodwork, cardiac testing, CT scans, and ultrasounds. Neurological and cognitive screenings were also conducted, which Trump has proudly mentioned that he passed excellently, advocating that all presidents should undergo similar tests.
The White House stated he was in “excellent health” and fit to continue his duties. However, as is customary, presidents determine what health information is publicly released, resulting in some data gaps. The inclusion of cognitive testing in the report spurred discussions about Trump’s mental health.
Later, in July, Trump received a comprehensive medical exam following some health concerns. Swelling in his lower legs and ankles and visible hand bruising led to this unscheduled visit. This condition has prompted public discourse on his health, with instances of Trump covering his hands in public sighting.
Questions were raised by some Democrats and doctors about why more transparency followed viral photos rather than proactive disclosures.
October 10, 2025: ‘Semiannual’ Follow-Up Visit
In October, Trump made another visit to Walter Reed, described as a “semiannual” checkup, despite having had a yearly checkup in April. This visit entailed routine tests, an MRI scan, and lab tests. However, specific reasons for the exam were not disclosed by the White House.
May 2026 Visit: What To Know
The White House’s statement earlier this month confirmed that Tuesday’s hospital visit is deemed routine. “This will include the President’s routine annual dental and medical assessments as part of his regular preventive health care,” mentioned the May 11 statement. Additionally, the President will engage with service members and staff at Walter Reed, recognizing their unwavering service and professionalism.
Despite being routine, this upcoming visit will attract attention, with both critics and supporters keenly observing the White House’s updates about the president’s medical tests and any treatments he undergoes.
