Former RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel discussed the possibility of Democrats seeking a third impeachment of President Donald Trump. This comes as part of broader political strategies as they aim to influence Republican tactics and key races ahead of the 2026 midterms.
Representative Al Green, D-Texas, announced his intention to force a vote on impeaching Trump, citing incidents involving federal immigration officers and the deaths of two U.S. citizens earlier this year. Green, a long-time critic of Trump, introduced a privileged resolution on the House floor. This mechanism requires a vote within two legislative days, pressuring House GOP leaders to act by Wednesday.
“Trump could face impeachment if Democrats seize the House majority,” warned a GOP leader.
Democrats face political challenges, especially as they strive to regain the House and Senate in the upcoming midterms. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., has traditionally avoided pursuing impeachment, preferring to focus on issues such as living costs. He and 127 other Democrats opposed a previous impeachment attempt by Green in June 2025.
Green, however, remains determined. Having lost his primary to a younger opponent advocating for generational change, this might be Green’s last major action against Trump. Notably, Green was removed from Trump’s joint sessions of Congress after disruptive behavior.
Democratic leaders are preparing numerous investigations into Trump and his administration if they win in November. Meanwhile, Green argues that immediate action is necessary, questioning the need for further delays.
“To those who say, ‘Wait until next year,’ I ask: How many more lives must be lost before we act?” Green wrote. He concludes that Trump poses a threat to democracy based on available evidence.
The resolution accuses Trump of high crimes and misdemeanors, citing the deaths linked to immigration enforcement. Elizabeth Elkind, a politics reporter for Fox News Digital, provided coverage on this topic. Follow her on Twitter @liz_elkind for more insights.
