Georgia’s youngest elected mayor was ousted from office just 10 months after assuming the role. Jayden Williams, 23, faced allegations of misusing city funds and engaging in inappropriate communications with a student. The Stockbridge City Council voted to remove him after the accusations came to light.
“The City of Stockbridge confirms that the City Council has taken formal action concerning the Office of Mayor,” the city stated, confirming Williams’ removal. The allegations included charges that Williams used a city-issued purchasing card for more than $4,000 in personal spending. Expenses included meals, clothing, gas, and a movie. Notably, he spent $2,600 on fuel and used a city vehicle for personal trips.
The misuse of funds came to light after city employees observed unusual transactions and informed the management and legal teams. Williams testified that he did not intend to misuse the funds and has since repaid the amount, claiming he confused the city-issued card with his personal card.
Additionally, Williams was accused of exchanging explicit messages and images with an 18-year-old high school student. While no criminal activity was identified since the student is legally an adult in Georgia, the situation raised ethical concerns. The police suggested an administrative review due to potential policy violations concerning the mayor’s involvement in a city-affiliated mentoring program.
Williams explained that he met the student before taking office and that the individual never participated in the city’s “Mayor for a Day” program. The interaction happened prior to his swearing-in in January 2026.
Despite facing no criminal charges, Williams’ privileges were restricted in July during the ongoing investigation. He had previously made history as Georgia’s youngest mayor while still a student at Clark Atlanta University.
