A brush fire has erupted in the hills around La Habra Heights, resulting in the destruction of one structure and posing a threat to others. The situation has prompted evacuations in the vicinity.
The blaze, named the Palos fire, started shortly after 2:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of Las Palomas Drive in Whittier. This information comes from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
As of 4 p.m., the fire had spread to approximately 12 acres, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Local authorities issued evacuation warnings for nearby neighborhoods while crews work to contain the fire.
Footage aired on KTTV Monday afternoon displayed at least one building consumed by flames. The evacuation warning area includes locations bounded by specific streets:
- Puenta del Este Drive and Hacienda Road to the east
- Casalero Drive, Lupin Hill Road, and Las Palomas Drive to the west
- Windrush and Gun Tree drives to the north
- Encanada Drive to the south
This zone encompasses part of the Puente Hills Preserve and the Hsi Lai Temple on the east, along with several businesses near Colima Road and South Hacienda Boulevard.
With authorities focusing on containing the fire, it is crucial for residents in affected areas to stay informed and follow evacuation orders as necessary.
