Rob Reiner was honored with a posthumous Emmy award last weekend. Voters named him the best guest actor in a comedy series for his role in “The Bear.” This accolade came nearly a year after his death.
Reiner’s win marks an impressive milestone. It arrived almost 50 years after his initial Emmy victory for his role on “All in the Family,” a Norman Lear sitcom. This 48-year gap stands as the longest in Television Academy history. Before this, his father, Carl Reiner, held the record.
In “The Bear,” Reiner portrayed Albert Schnurr, a restaurant consultant, in the fast-paced world of food. His award was revealed during the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony on September 6. Wendi McLendon-Covey, known for “The Goldbergs” on ABC, accepted the award on behalf of Reiner as the audience gave a standing ovation.
Rob Reiner is the first to receive a posthumous Emmy for an on-screen role since Raúl Juliá in 1995 for “The Burning Season.” Tragically, Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, passed away in their Los Angeles home in December.
