Organized Labor Sees Renewed Support Across Political Spectrum
Organized labor is finding new allies despite its reduced influence. These alliances emerge from both the Left and the Right as labor politics face intense challenges in 2026.
This year, the landscape for labor is especially tough. Large private-sector union contracts are set to expire across the nation. This includes agreements impacting 20,000 Verizon workers in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Additionally, 25,000 steel-mill workers in the Midwest will see their contracts lapse later this summer.
Earlier this year, negotiations averted a strike at Stop & Shop. The agreement reached involved 28,000 food workers in New England, highlighting the complex dynamics and negotiations in labor politics today.
