Public Support for the Supreme Court’s Rulings Amid Low Confidence
Public trust in longstanding institutions is faltering. However, many Americans continue to support the Supreme Court’s decisions. Despite this, the institution faces a significant issue with public perception as it prepares for a new session.
According to a Gallup poll conducted in July, only 33 percent of Americans approve of the Supreme Court’s performance. This approval rating marks a record low for the 26-year history of the poll. Meanwhile, Marquette Law School offers a slightly different perspective. Their recent survey reveals that 47 percent of those polled approve of the Court, while 53 percent express disapproval. This data indicates a complex relationship between public perception and institutional trust.
The challenges facing the Supreme Court reflect broader societal trends. Many institutions are experiencing a decline in public confidence. However, the sustained support for the Court’s rulings suggests that Americans may differentiate between the institution’s function and their overall confidence in it.
