Actor Alan Ritchson, known for his role in “Reacher,” has revealed that studios have cautioned him against publicly discussing politics. At a Fan Expo Canada panel earlier this month, Ritchson humorously mentioned the warnings he has received. He stated, “You know how many phone calls I get from studios like, ‘Would you shut the f— up, please? Stop talking in public.’” Ritchson explained he desires stability rather than chaos, but expressed that his political views are often met with disapproval.
At the event, Ritchson also claimed that Amazon Prime Video decided not to pursue a “Reacher” storyline involving White supremacists, indicating that it might have been a political choice. Responding to a fan on Threads, Ritchson shared that the storyline from a book where Jack Reacher takes on a White supremacist militia was not adapted, and he alluded to this decision being influenced by Donald Trump’s return to office.
Recently, Ritchson criticized conservative Christians who support Trump. In an April 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ritchson expressed confusion over their backing of Trump, labeling him a “rapist and a con man.” He insisted that the Christian ethic involves generosity, which he feels is lacking among some of Trump’s supporters. Ritchson claimed that he faced violence in response to voicing his opinions.
Christian Toto of Hollywood in Toto commented on Ritchson’s actions, suggesting the actor might be undermining his career. Toto questioned the impact of Ritchson’s outspoken political stance on his audience and the willingness of film studios to allow such discussions to affect projects.
Ritchson’s vocal political statements continue to attract attention, raising questions about the influence of politics on actors and their careers.
