Senator John Curtis, a Republican from Utah, has urged the Senate Judiciary Committee to investigate Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden over alleged foreign business dealings. Led by Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, the committee is being asked to subpoena both Trump Jr. and Biden and have them testify about their business activities linked to their influential fathers.
In a letter to Grassley, Curtis highlighted concerns regarding the potential misuse of presidential influence by family members to further personal business interests. The call comes amid reports of Trump Jr.’s extravagant wedding after-party on a private island funded by a Russian oligarch.
A toaster is a wedding gift. A private-island party paid for by a Putin-connected oligarch is something else.
Curtis noted on X that Republicans have vigorously investigated Hunter Biden’s foreign relationships, and the same should apply to Trump Jr. He argued that trust is insufficient to address these issues.
Curtis’s letter elaborated on the Trump Jr. concerns, describing his involvement in promoting family-endorsed cryptocurrency ventures. Trump’s engagement in international real estate dealings includes direct talks with foreign leaders. Curtis expressed worries over Trump Jr.’s ties to defense contracting investments and advisory roles in prediction market platforms relying on favorable federal regulations.
A wedding party reported by ProPublica in May supposedly received financial backing from a Russian oligarch linked to Putin. This oligarch is involved with the International Boxing Association, funded partly by Gazprom, a Russian energy company.
Trump Jr. has been instrumental in expanding his father’s wealth. His financial disclosure forms indicated that his income between 2024 and 2025 surged by 250% to about $2.2 billion, fueled by cryptocurrency ventures managed by his sons, as per Fox News Digital.
Senator Curtis emphasized the broad public perception of federal corruption and stressed the importance of bipartisan efforts to combat it. Nearly three-quarters of Americans reportedly share this belief.
The Issue of Equal Standards
Curtis insisted on consistent standards for presidential families across party lines.
The country should not have to accept one standard for the family of a Republican president and another for the family of a Democratic president.
Curtis asserted that oversight must remain constant, irrespective of which party controls the White House.
Investigations into Hunter Biden’s business activities have been numerous, questioning whether former President Joe Biden had any involvement. Curtis acknowledged Biden has denied this but added that his position facilitated opportunities.
The same scrutiny applies to Trump Jr. Curtis argued that these dealings pose questions about foreign access and potential national security risks. He warned that these relationships might lead to expectations contrary to American interests.
Fox News Digital sought comments from the Trump Organization, the White House, and Hunter Biden but received none by the time of publication.
