The Boston Red Sox have officially appointed Chad Tracy as their manager, removing his interim status. Tracy steps in as the 49th manager in franchise history. After succeeding Alex Cora on April 25, Tracy transformed the team’s performance dramatically. At that point, the Red Sox had a 10-17 record. Since then, under Tracy’s leadership, they’ve surged to a 74-55 record.
Tracy has signed a three-year contract with the club, extending through 2029, with a team option for 2030. In addition, the Red Sox have affirmed the continuation of chief baseball officer Craig Breslow’s role, aligning his options similarly with Tracy’s contract, through 2029 and 2030. The Red Sox are gaining on their rivals, achieving the second-best record in the American League and fifth overall in MLB since Tracy’s takeover.
Highlights of Tracy’s tenure include leading the team to a historic 27-3 run from July 3 to August 7, marking the best 30-game track in franchise history. As a reward for his successful strategies, Tracy has secured the Red Sox a postseason berth. They are expected to face the New York Yankees in the Wild Card Series. After last season’s elimination by the Yankees in the wild card round, Tracy’s team is aiming for redemption.
Tracy has an expansive career history in baseball. As a player, he spent eight years in the minor leagues. Since transitioning to coaching in 2015, Tracy has gained experience with the Los Angeles Angels, holding positions that ranged from minor league manager to minor league coordinator. Joining the Red Sox in 2022, he managed Triple-A Worcester prior to his current role in the major leagues.
Red Sox President and CEO, Sam Kennedy, expressed confidence in Tracy and Breslow, citing their unique leadership styles. Kennedy emphasized Tracy’s quick adaptation to challenges, commanding trust swiftly at the major league level. He highlighted their achievements in fostering a robust team environment, as character and leadership play pivotal roles alongside results in baseball.
