The PGA Tour recently resumed with the FedEx Cup Fall series, starting with the Biltmore Championship after a brief three-week break. Meanwhile, the DP World Tour saw significant action at the BMW PGA Championship, a key event with a competitive field. Notably, two individuals connected to the U.S. Presidents Cup team emerged victorious in these events.
J.J. Spaun’s Competitive Drive
J.J. Spaun, who had earlier represented the U.S. in the 2025 Ryder Cup, seemed a likely captain’s pick for the upcoming Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club, Illinois. However, U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker opted for players ranked below Spaun, leaving him out, much to many observers’ surprise.
Spaun’s performance at the BMW PGA Championship was outstanding. He clinched victory with a final-round 67, beating seasoned golfers like Aaron Rai, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, and others. Despite having only one Top 20 finish since June, Spaun played with determination, saying handling his exclusion was a motivator. He said, “I played with a huge chip on my shoulder; I definitely had something to prove this week.”
Jacob Bridgeman’s Rising Star
In contrast, Jacob Bridgeman solidified his place on the U.S. team by finishing 12th in the standings and winning the Biltmore Championship. The 26-year-old former Clemson player has demonstrated consistency on the Tour with 12 Top 25 finishes in 24 starts. Bridgeman did not make a significant impact in the major championships, but his recent win, alongside impressive performances at the BMW Championship and Tour Championship, boosts his confidence.
Bridgeman has become a formidable presence, rising to 20th in global rankings and leading in strokes gained: putting. As a player, he may not display flashy feats, but his potential to become a mainstay for Team USA is evident. Medinah presents an opportunity for Bridgeman to showcase his talents and personality, strengthening his role for future events.
