Arch Manning, quarterback for Texas, spoke with ESPN reporter Holly Rowe following a recent game against Tennessee. This interview came shortly after Manning apologized for previously finding humor in an AI-generated video involving Rowe. Texas, ranked No. 1, managed a 20-17 win over No. 14 Tennessee, with Rowe querying Manning about the pivotal moments in the game.
“I know this was a hard-fought win. This was dramatic down the stretch, but that long drive, you guys punch it in, you go over, and you’re hyping up your offensive line. How huge was that moment for you guys in this game?” Rowe asked.
Manning responded positively, highlighting the determination of both the offense and the defense, particularly noting Colin Simmons’ excellent performance. When the conversation shifted to personal significance due to his uncle Peyton Manning’s history at the same stadium, Arch remained humble.
“It’s not about me,” Manning said. “I didn’t play very well, but our team played great. Defense played well. SEC road win, that’s what it’s all about.”
Manning’s performance included completing 14 of 19 passes for 201 yards and an interception. Under pressure, he was sacked six times. Texas team dynamics were visible, with the defense tying a record with 10 sacks, five credited to Simmons.
Rowe also touched on Manning’s supportive nature towards Tennessee’s quarterback, Faizon Brandon, after the game. Manning expressed his admiration for Brandon and wished him success.
The exchange highlighted the lingering effects of a previous incident. After a thrilling September comeback against Ohio State, Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian’s interactions with Rowe became viral when an edited AI video misrepresented the event. Manning had initially joked about the edit but issued an apology, recognizing the hurt it caused.
“I specifically want to apologize to Holly Rowe for what she has personally had to deal with because of my comments,” Manning wrote. “I have a ton of respect for her and appreciate her showing me grace in this moment. I need to do better and will be more thoughtful going forward.”
Rowe accepted Manning’s apology, mentioning their private conversation and signaling a shared commitment to respect and kindness. The recent interview seemed to embody these values, with Manning showing gratitude and Rowe offering praise.
