Ole Miss is on a roll. With a 3-0 record and ranked No. 4 nationwide, the team is riding high after an upset against LSU during Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford. This sets the stage for their next challenge at ‘The Swamp,’ where they’ll face the undefeated Florida Gators under new head coach Jon Sumrall.
During Friday’s episode of ESPN’s ‘Get Up,’ analysts Joe Fortenbaugh, Dan Orlovsky, and Harry Douglas predicted a Gators victory over Ole Miss on Saturday. Orlovsky pointed out, ‘Ole Miss experienced the highest emotional moment last weekend. Recovering from such an emotional drain is tough for the players.’
Douglas emphasized the strength of Florida’s skill position players, stating, ‘The skill position players at Florida surpass those at LSU. Their core trio—Jadan Baugh as running back, Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown III as wide receivers—stands strong against any in the country.’
Fortenbaugh added, ‘Past games like Texas beating Ohio State show teams often experience a letdown afterward. This scenario poses a considerable challenge for Ole Miss.’
The Gators have started strong, securing a 66-21 win against Florida Atlantic and a 52-3 victory over Campbell. Their recent success included a 44-39 win against Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Coach Sumrall, who brought Tulane to an 11-2 finish last season, continues his impressive record in Gainesville. Now, he aims to settle scores with Ole Miss after two losses last season.
This contest will be Florida’s first encounter with a ranked opponent. Despite Ole Miss’s high spirits, the Gators are favored by 3.5 points, driven by a potent offense and robust home support. It’s a pivotal test for both sides as they move through the regular season.
Kicking off at 3:30 p.m. ET, the game will take place at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Florida.
