Gibbs Shines in Lions’ Victory
Jahmyr Gibbs showcased exceptional performance, scoring a 17-yard touchdown by reversing field and sprinting to the left end zone. He continued to impress with another touchdown run and an 11-yard reception, leading the Detroit Lions to a 31-24 win over the New York Jets.
Coach Dan Campbell praised Gibbs, saying he found another gear in the second half. The Lions leaned heavily on their running back, who delivered both on the ground and through the air.
“Anytime [Barry Sanders is] here, I’ve got to step up my game,” Gibbs said.
Gibbs finished with 20 carries, 99 yards, and two touchdowns. He also caught seven passes for 65 yards and a score. His standout play made him the first NFL player with at least 300 rushing yards, four rushing TDs, 150 receiving yards, and two receiving TDs in three games.
Jets’ Late Push Not Enough
The Jets overcame a 14-point deficit with Geno Smith’s three touchdown passes, tying the game 24-24. But two defensive errors allowed the Lions to regain the lead. Detroit’s safety Chuck Clark forced a fumble from Smith, ending New York’s comeback attempt.
Smith ended the game with 31 completions out of 37 attempts for 321 yards. Garrett Wilson had an impressive performance with 10 catches for 107 yards, but he left the game due to a head injury.
Quarterback Battle
Jared Goff completed 25 of 32 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns. The Lions executed a strategic play, putting the ball in Gibbs’ hands for a critical field goal in the second quarter. Goff’s connection with Amon-Ra St. Brown gave Detroit a 10-7 lead before halftime.
Goff humorously claimed he helped Gibbs reach the end zone by running interference on the play.
Upcoming Matches
Next week, the Jets will visit the Chicago Bears, and the Lions will face the Carolina Panthers.
Vikings Defeat Buccaneers Amid Costly Injuries
The Minnesota Vikings secured a 23-16 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, both teams suffered setbacks due to injuries.
Myles Price boosted the Vikings with an 86-yard punt return for a touchdown. Kyler Murray added a 41-yard TD pass to Jordan Addison.
Injury Concerns
Baker Mayfield and Justin Jefferson sustained game-changing injuries. Mayfield left after a thumb injury, while Jefferson injured his right ankle. The Vikings remain undefeated at 3-0, but the Buccaneers continue to struggle, starting 0-3.
Game Highlights
Murray completed 15 out of 29 passes for 168 yards. Mayfield managed 217 yards, one TD, and one interception, but was hindered by penalties and six sacks.
The Bucs’ offense faltered again when Chris Godwin Jr.’s impressive 85-yard TD was nullified due to penalties.
Standings and Next Games
The Vikings have a 3-0 start, whereas the Buccaneers are looking for their first win. Next Sunday, the Vikings host the Miami Dolphins, and the Bucs face the Green Bay Packers.
