On Tuesday, President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson will meet with executives from leading AI companies at the White House. The gathering comes as lawmakers face mounting pressure to address the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, which some warn could pose serious risks to humanity. Among the attendees will be Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, according to a source familiar with Amodei’s plans.
Other notable participants include OpenAI President Greg Brockman, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and Palantir CEO Alex Karp. Sources have indicated that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will also join the meeting.
In an interview with Fox Business, House Speaker Mike Johnson emphasized the importance of striking a balance between regulatory measures and fostering innovation. He stated that merely burdening the technology with excessive regulations would be misguided and could potentially threaten national security. Johnson said, “A balance is what we’re after. I think the conversation tomorrow will help us along that way.”
President Trump recently had a private dinner with Amodei, who advocates for safeguards in the industry. Despite initial resistance, Trump mentioned that AI regulations would be part of their discussion. Historically, some AI executives, including those from Anthropic and OpenAI, have called for moderating the pace of AI development to mitigate potential risks. Others, like Jensen Huang, claim such concerns are exaggerated and warn that restrictions could hinder America’s competitive edge over China.
Trump dismissed fears surrounding AI as a “hoax” earlier this month and expressed plans to create a federal “AI force.” Although Senate Majority Leader John Thune will not attend the White House meeting, he hopes it proves beneficial. Thune mentioned he has other meetings scheduled with several tech leaders later in the week. On Monday, Thune met with Amodei at the Capitol.
In addition to the White House gathering, a separate event in Washington is slated for Tuesday, where AI will be a key topic of discussion. President Trump is expected to speak at the event and present a new online portal designed for the federal government.
