Republican Senator Susan Collins’ office in Biddeford, Maine faced vandalism last Monday. The entry doors of the office were defaced with the words “Trump Whore.” This act prompted Collins’ Democratic challenger, Troy Jackson, to publicly denounce the “vandalism and intimidation,” calling it “wrong.”
The vandalism was confirmed by the senator’s office. A photo of the damage was shared on Facebook and X by Maine state Senator Matt Harrington, the assistant Republican leader. Biddeford police have confirmed to Fox News Digital that an investigation is underway.
“Vandalism is unacceptable. Senator Collins and her staff will not be intimidated. Our Biddeford constituent service office remains open, and we will continue serving the people of Maine,” said Collins’ Chief of Staff Katie Brown in a statement to Fox News Digital.
Collins, who is seeking re-election for her sixth term representing Maine in the Senate, is engaged in a closely fought race against Jackson, the former Maine Senate president. This election is crucial for Democrats as they aim to regain the Senate majority from Republicans.
Jackson, after initially remaining silent, expressed his disapproval saying, “There’s no place for this in Maine. Vandalism and intimidation are wrong, full stop. Senator Collins and her staff should be able to do their jobs without anyone defacing their office.”
Former Maine state Representative Austin Theriault, a Republican congressional nominee, also voiced strong condemnation, stating that actions like this should be reproached across the political spectrum without hesitation. He speculated about a possible “identity problem” among Maine Democrats due to Jackson’s earlier silence.
Maine GOP Communications Director Kristina Parker labeled the vandalism as representative of the “radical left’s aggression” and emphasized the importance of civil discourse. She called for a swift prosecution, reinforcing that such behavior should not be tolerated politically.
Collins’ Biddeford office is near the site where ICE agents fatally shot an individual in July, resulting in protests outside her office due to her support for ICE funding.
The senator, known for her moderate stance and occasional divergence from former President Donald Trump, has been a focal point in this campaign, gaining bipartisan notice. She recently cast her 10,000th consecutive Senate vote. Her opposition to Trump’s tariff policies and a controversial vote in 2018 have drawn scrutiny from both parties.
