Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore suffered an injury during Saturday’s game against the USC Trojans following a hard hit from linebacker Desman Stephens II. The incident occurred when Moore was sliding to give himself up in the early moments of the second quarter. Stephens’ forceful hit resulted in his ejection for targeting. He also faced a one-game suspension for what officials deemed ‘unacceptable’ conduct.
After the impact, Moore exhibited the fencing response, an involuntary reaction signaling a severe head trauma. Later, he was diagnosed with a concussion, but both MRI and CT scans showed no additional injuries.
On Monday, Moore addressed the public for the first time post-injury. He expressed gratitude: ‘To my team, the community, and to the World, thank you. These past 2 days have been very difficult, but through all of your prayers I have made progress. There’s times I question myself and the Lord and say Why now? but I quickly remember Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. I can only worry about today, and making sure I give today it’s full attention. I’ll be back soon. Go Ducks!’
In Moore’s absence, backup quarterback Dylan Raiola stepped in, throwing for 289 yards and achieving two touchdowns. Raiola’s efforts helped lead the Ducks to a 41-27 victory.
The Oregon Ducks are set to face the UCLA Bruins next on Saturday, Oct. 10.
