Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Fox News’ ‘Hannity’ about a recent incident near a U.K. military base used by the United States. He revealed that the thwarted terror plot involved a ‘foreign actor,’ highlighting global threats from countries like Iran. Rubio refrained from offering detailed information but emphasized the seriousness of the situation.
The plot, which nearly occurred over the weekend, was described as severe by Rubio. The incident showcases ongoing threats from foreign elements. Rubio assured there will be repercussions for any threats against U.S. interests and thanked U.K. partners for their assistance in preventing the threat.
In related remarks, President Donald Trump speculated on a possible connection to Iran, a country currently at odds with the United States. He expressed disagreement with the release of suspects on bail, which occurred following their arrest near RAF Fairford in western England. Police declared a major incident, and a national emergency meeting took place due to this development, although the investigation is ongoing.
Despite the release of the five individuals on bail, police are exploring potential involvement of foreign state actors. These individuals, British nationals in their early 20s, were arrested after suspicious activity involving three large white vans was noted by a local farmer. The vans did not contain explosives, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Heightened security measures remain at the base. Residents nearby who had experienced evacuations are now returning to their homes. This incident occurs amid increasing alerts about hostile actors, including Iran and Russia, organizing destabilizing activities globally.
Recently, Britain raised its national terrorism threat level to reflect the high likelihood of an attack, following incidents in north London. The country has also imposed sanctions related to Iran, linked to activities that destabilize Britain and other nations.
Iran has denied any involvement in this and similar incidents, maintaining its stance against such accusations.
