Business-Class Passenger Shocks with Unusual Grooming Choice
During a recent EVA Air flight from Taiwan, a business-class passenger caused a stir by using a drinking glass to scratch his scalp vigorously. The incident, which was caught on video, took place aboard a Boeing 787 Dreamliner on September 24.
The unusual behavior was captured by a fellow passenger seated behind the man. The passenger dragged the glass rim through his hair repeatedly, leading to discomfort among those nearby. One witness expressed disgust, stating, “This is disgusting. It’s a cup, not a massage comb.” This reaction highlighted how unexpected occurrences can affect the travel experience, especially in premium cabins.
No one wants to eat your dandruff. I’m really going to vomit.
The flight, which landed safely, originated from EVA Air, a company founded in 1989 and based in Taiwan. The witness who recorded the video was particularly vocal about the incident.
Etiquette expert Diane Gottsman emphasized that using a glass to scratch one’s head is inappropriate, especially in a public setting. According to Gottsman, public behavior must consider the comfort of others. She added, “Any time you see someone scratching themselves with an object, or even their fingers in public, it’s unappealing and somewhat alarming.”
Reports of passengers pushing the limits of acceptable behavior on flights have surfaced in recent years. One example from March 2026 involved a passenger placing feet on a window, drawing criticism from fellow travelers. A Reddit user described their frustration with such behavior, particularly on a long 4.5-hour flight.
Gottsman advised that while at home, personal behavior might differ, public spaces require heightened awareness of one’s surroundings and respect for others’ comfort.
