University of Georgia Student Survives Eight-Story Fall
A 21-year-old University of Georgia student endured a fall from the eighth floor of an apartment building. This occurred at the Rambler Athens apartment complex, located on West Broad Street. The tragic incident happened on Saturday evening, according to a police report.
Witnesses informed the authorities that Kristin Sargent was dancing near an open window when she inadvertently fell through the screen. She landed near a pool on the second-floor courtyard, as noted in the police report.
Officers investigating the scene discovered a metal bench had blood stains, likely indicating Sargent struck it during her descent. An armrest on the bench had broken off.
Lt. Katie Jenkins, from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, communicated with Fox News Digital about the student’s fall. She affirmed that they do not consider the incident a criminal matter. Sargent was reportedly conscious and alert afterward.
Emergency responders received a 911 call detailing the chaotic moments following Sargent’s fall. A distressed caller informed dispatchers of their friend’s unfortunate fall while dancing. The caller described looking down at Sargent, who was motionless after the incident.
Sargent was promptly taken to a hospital, where both police officers and forensic personnel conducted interviews and investigations.
Authorities classified the fall as an accident based on initial evidence. The police report mentioned Sargent lived in the apartment where the mishap took place.
While authorities could not provide specifics about the window’s safety conditions, Rambler Athens stated it was looking into the incident.
Fox News Digital reached out to the apartment complex to inquire about safety precautions related to the windows at the time of the event.
