There’s college football on the schedule tonight, promising an engaging matchup. Recent Friday nights have delivered some entertaining games, despite a few uneven contests. The focus tonight turns to a game in my home state as Penn State visits Northwestern.
Penn State’s Performance
Penn State is a renowned name in college football; however, their performance over the past decade hasn’t entirely lived up to the reputation. The last time Penn State concluded a season with one or fewer losses was back in 2005. Since then, their record in the Big 10 shows they have finished 7-1 or 8-1 only four times.
The team did manage to reach the College Football Playoff in 2024, winning their first-round match. Currently, they hold a 3-1 record following a recent loss to Wisconsin, who defeated them 24-20. This loss caused them to drop from 13th place to being unranked.
Northwestern’s Journey
Northwestern entered the game with a 2-1 record. Historically, a winning season for them raises eyebrows rather than expectations. While they’ve put in substantial resources, their outcomes have been moderate. Their season began with a convincing 34-18 victory over San Diego State.
The Wildcats then faced Deion Sanders’ Colorado team, securing a decisive 41-7 win. Despite this, the performance likely reflected Colorado’s struggles more than Northwestern’s excellence. Last week, they almost matched Indiana, narrowly losing 29-23.
Game Outlook
Both teams are coming off a loss as they prepare to face each other. Penn State’s offense is likely stronger, though not as dominant as predicted at the season’s start. Northwestern, on the other hand, could keep up defensively, though not entirely halt Penn State’s offense. My prediction favors Penn State, but rather than staking on their victory, I anticipate a high-scoring game, with an over 45.5 points expectation.
