Billy Joel’s cherished motorcycle collection will be auctioned next month in New York City. Over 70 items from Joel’s personal collection will be available without reserve at Gooding Christie’s inaugural Retromobile New York auction.
Joel’s Passion for Motorcycles
David Gooding, founder of Gooding Christie’s, shared with Fox News Digital that Joel, 77, is deeply passionate about motorcycles. The auction will feature a wide array of bikes, including older models, those with sidecars, and many more.
Joel, known as the “Piano Man,” will have some of his most beloved motorcycles on the auction block. These include brands like Ducati, BMW, Moto Guzzi, Harley-Davidson, Yamaha, Triumph, Honda, and Kawasaki.
The Highlight – Triumph T140 Bonneville
A standout in the collection is a 1978 Triumph T140 Bonneville. This motorcycle was a gift from Madison Square Garden to Joel for achieving 150 sold-out shows, a record for the venue. The bike, estimated between $10,000 to $15,000, features a unique keyboard design on its tank and comes with a matching helmet listing all Joel’s MSG shows.
Other Noteworthy Bikes
The collection also boasts a 1982 Ducati 900 Mike Hailwood Replica, which could fetch between $15,000 and $25,000. A restored 1975 Ducati 750 Sport is another highlight, with an estimated value of $25,000 to $35,000.
The auction, scheduled for November 20-21, will take place at the Javits Center. The collection is expected to draw interest from both Joel fans and motorcycle enthusiasts.
Proceeds for a Cause
Some proceeds from the auction will benefit the Joel Foundation. This charity supports non-profit music education and public women’s health initiatives.
“I’ve always been drawn to bikes built by people who cared about getting every detail right,” Joel’s statement read. “I’ve loved building this collection. Now it’s someone else’s turn to hit the road.”
Joel’s Health Update
In May 2025, Joel shared his diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), affecting his vision, hearing, and balance. After undergoing brain surgery, Joel revealed that doctors attributed his condition to his rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle.
NPH occurs when cerebrospinal fluid builds inside the skull, pressing on the brain. Treatment typically involves installing a shunt to drain the excess fluid.
