Recent polling from NBC News and Telemundo indicates a notable shift among Latino voters away from President Donald Trump and the Republican Party as the midterm elections approach. The poll, conducted from September 21-28, surveyed 800 registered Latino voters across the United States.
Key findings reveal that 69% of Latino voters disapprove of Trump’s performance, while only 27% express approval. In addition, approximately 66% believe Trump’s deportation policies have been excessive, and 75% criticize Trump’s handling of the economy and cost of living.
President Donald Trump’s policies and performance appear unpopular among Latino voters, as portrayed by the NBC News and Telemundo poll.
The poll further reveals that Democrats maintain a significant lead over Republicans among Latino voters, suggesting Democrats hold a strong advantage as the elections approach. When asked which party they prefer to control Congress, 59% of Latino voters choose Democrats compared to 35% siding with Republicans.
Nevertheless, Republicans have made considerable progress with Latino voters over the past decade. In 2016 and 2018, GOP support from Latino voters was only 21% and 26% respectively. Despite these gains, the latest poll shows Democrats maintain a prominent lead heading into the 2024 elections.
NBC News and Telemundo’s poll methodology included phone interviews and online surveys conducted through text messaging, advertising a margin of error of 3.5%.
This data aligns with a series of polls highlighting the Democrats’ substantial advantage before the midterm elections. Based on Fox News Power Rankings, Democrats are projected to secure 215 seats in the House of Representatives compared to 201 for the GOP. To achieve majority, Democrats need three more victories among 19 potential toss-up races, while Republicans must win at least 17 of those.
In a recent rally in Dayton, Ohio, Trump dismissed negative polling numbers, claiming they fail to account for his campaign efforts. He stated, ‘These fake polls, they don’t account for one thing. They don’t account for the fact that Trump is out campaigning.’
He expressed confidence in his influence and past successes, proclaiming victories over various adversities: ‘We’ve won every battle. We’ve defeated every hope. We’ve overcome every threat.’
The political atmosphere remains charged with upcoming races determining control in Congress as both parties vie for crucial seats.
