The U.S. military has reported a lethal strike against a vessel in the Caribbean believed to be trafficking drugs, resulting in the deaths of four individuals onboard. The U.S. Southern Command stated that the vessel was traversing known drug trafficking routes.
According to a military statement, Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere was directed by U.S. Southern Command to conduct the strike on the go-fast vessel operating within these routes. A released video depicted an explosion destroying what was described as a go-fast vessel.
The Southern Command asserted that intelligence indicated the vessel was actively engaged in drug trafficking, although it did not provide supporting evidence for these claims.
This action is part of ongoing operations by the Trump administration to target alleged narco-terrorists, with more than 235 fatalities reported from strikes conducted since September 2025. Despite repeated attacks, including the most recent, the Pentagon has withheld the identities of those killed and evidence of drugs onboard.
Concerns have been raised by politicians like Sen. Rand Paul and human rights groups, criticizing these actions as potentially unlawful and extrajudicial, with warnings about the lack of due process and risks of harming innocent individuals.
Additionally, the administration has engaged in negotiations with allied Latin American countries to extend military operations to land, although Guatemala denied agreeing to such a deal. Ecuador commenced joint operations with the U.S. in March.
