Tyreek Hill’s Potential Return to NFL Clouded by Domestic Abuse Allegations
Recent reports have suggested Tyreek Hill might be rejoining the Kansas City Chiefs. His agent even anticipated that Hill, a former All-Pro wide receiver, would likely sign with a team soon. However, these predictions came before Hill’s divorce trial started on Tuesday, during which his estranged wife, Lakeeta Vaccaro, testified about incidents of abuse. Her lawsuit details eight alleged instances of domestic violence.
The divorce proceedings may be irrelevant to the NFL, but the abuse allegations could significantly impact Hill’s return under the league’s Personal Conduct Policy. Currently a free agent, Hill faces ongoing NFL scrutiny regarding these claims. A league source confirmed to OutKick that the review is underway without a set timeline for resolution.
The open court testimonies on Tuesday will likely play a crucial role in the NFL’s evaluation of Hill’s future playing status. Keeta Vaccaro, sister of former NFL safety Kenny Vaccaro, is pursuing punitive and compensatory damages. During the trial, she recounted a visit to ESPN’s Orlando campus in July 2024, where Hill got upset over her not having professional hair and makeup done for potential interviews.
Vaccaro stated that Hill became agitated, attempted to punch her in the stomach, and expressed he did not want their unborn baby. Miami Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill observed a game from the sidelines against the New York Jets in September 2025, evidencing his complex personal situation.
Lakeeta Vaccaro described a marriage marked by cycles of peace followed by distress, recalling Hill’s violent behavior. She accused him of various abusive actions, including pushing her into a car door and leaving her on the roadside in anger. During these episodes, she said Hill physically harmed her.
Hill’s defense team highlighted inconsistencies between Vaccaro’s deposition and her claims, questioning the absence of physical evidence. They acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations but argued that acknowledging them is distinct from accepting them.
Hill’s history includes prior incidents of violence against women:
- From 2014 to 2015, at Oklahoma State, Hill was arrested following accusations from his then-pregnant girlfriend, Crystal Espinal. He pleaded guilty to domestic assault and battery and received probation, though the case was eventually dismissed in 2018.
- In 2019, Hill faced investigation after an audio recording revealed discussion about their son’s broken arm and threats toward Espinal. Prosecutors filed no charges, and the NFL investigation led to no suspension.
- In 2024, British influencer Sophie Hall accused Hill of injuring her during a football drill. This civil lawsuit was settled in May 2026, but details remain undisclosed.
- Vaccaro reported multiple incidents from 2024 to 2025, including claims of discarded cigars and endangerment involving their baby. Police were called but made no arrests.
Tuesday’s court proceedings concluded around 5 p.m., and both Hill and Vaccaro opted not to address reporters. The trial is set to continue on Wednesday.
