The Cincinnati Bengals faced a dual setback during their recent game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Both Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, key offensive players for the team, were sidelined due to injuries.
Chase suffered a concussion, while Higgins incurred an adductor injury. The potential absence of both players for the upcoming Week 5 game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, October 11, poses a significant challenge for the Bengals.
On a positive note, Chase returned to practice on Thursday. ESPN’s Ben Baby reported this development, indicating Chase is progressing through the concussion protocol. Despite this positive sign, Chase has not yet been cleared to play in Sunday’s game, as he continues to navigate the protocol process.
The injury occurred when Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones pulled Chase down by the face mask, after which another defender tackled him. Jones was penalized for the face mask infraction, advancing the Bengals 15 yards. Consequently, Chase left the field on his own and did not return for the remainder of the game.
So far this season, Chase has accumulated 212 yards and three touchdowns over four games with 21 receptions. He trails Higgins, who has 401 yards, in both targets and yards.
Higgins, on the other hand, has not practiced for two consecutive days and is expected to miss the game against Miami. Reports from Fox19’s Jeremy Rauch mention Higgins was seen light jogging on the rehab field Thursday.
Facing the possibility of playing without their top two receivers is concerning for the 2-2 Bengals. However, their opponent, the Miami Dolphins, currently holds an 0-4 record, which may offer some relief. Nonetheless, the importance of each game in the NFL cannot be underestimated.
