Since being traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has established himself as one of the top players in NBA history. At 28 years old, he has already achieved milestones that many players only dream of, including four All-Star selections, four first-team All-Pro honors, and two league MVP awards.
In 2025, he led the Thunder to their first NBA championship and earned the Finals MVP title. Last season, the Thunder came close to returning to the Finals, narrowly missing a chance to face the New York Knicks by one game. Speaking with Time’s Sean Gregory, Gilgeous-Alexander confidently stated, “I think I’m the best player in the NBA. I think the production that I have night in and night out is best-player-in-the-NBA production. I think the efficiency that I do it at is best-player-in-the-NBA efficiency.”
His accomplishments are supported by impressive statistics. He broke Wilt Chamberlain’s long-standing record for consecutive games scoring 20 or more points, achieving 127 straight games and averaging 32.5 points on 53.5% shooting during the streak. He also had five 50-point games, including a personal best of 55 points. Over this period, the Thunder held a 103-24 record.
Last season, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.1 points per game, along with personal bests in assists (6.6), rebounds (4.3), and steals (1.4), shooting 55.3% from the field, 38.6% from three-point range, and 87.9% from the free-throw line. He excels at scoring from all areas, getting to the rim with ease, drawing fouls, and maintaining one of the league’s most effective pull-up jump shots.
With no signs of decline, Gilgeous-Alexander continues to be a key player for the Thunder. His growth alongside teammates Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams keeps Oklahoma City in strong championship contention.
