The Washington Nationals faced significant criticism after Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe released a video. The recording featured Sean Hudson, the director of community relations, allegedly discussing the exclusion of pitcher Trevor Williams from social media promotions due to past religious remarks.
Following the video’s release, some politicians, including Representative Lauren Boebert, have urged the Department of Justice to investigate the situation. The video has sparked widespread attention.
A report from The Athletic indicated that the Nationals dismissed a community relations executive shortly after the video’s release. The hidden camera footage revealed discussions about various internal matters, including the alleged social media restrictions on Williams, ties with defense contractors, and efforts to appease President Trump.
Williams reportedly became a target due to his stance against the anti-Catholic group, Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, honored by the Los Angeles Dodgers. This group often satirizes Christian and Catholic customs. The footage allegedly captures Hudson saying the Dodgers associated with drag queens dressed as nuns, prompting Williams to criticize on social media, “This is my religion. You all are mocking it… Because of that, we [Washington Nationals] don’t use him [Trevor Williams] on social [media].”
The Nationals haven’t publicly commented on Hudson’s dismissal. However, they provided a statement to Fox News Digital. A spokesperson emphasized, “The statements are not only factually incorrect, but do not reflect the views, opinions or actions of the Washington Nationals.” The team asserts its commitment to an inclusive environment for players, fans, and staff, rejecting any contrary allegations.
Hudson has not replied to calls, texts, or emails about the issue.
