Arch Manning, the quarterback for the Texas Longhorns, aims to propel his team to the College Football Playoff, with aspirations of reaching the national championship. Despite his current focus, many are interested in his potential at the next football level. As the nephew of iconic NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning, Arch has carried significant expectations since high school.
ESPN’s latest quarterback rankings for the 2027 NFL Draft place Manning at No. 5. An AFC assistant general manager expressed skepticism about the ‘blind faith’ in Manning based on his last name. Questions arise regarding his potential, as some wonder if his current performance might reflect his true capability as a prospect.
In the 2026 college season, Manning aimed to prove his worth following a 2025 season seen by some as lackluster. He recorded 3,163 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and seven interceptions across 13 games. This season, he has thrown for 862 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions, leading the Longhorns to a 4-0 record, which includes a remarkable 21-point fourth-quarter rally against Ohio State.
Manning entered college amidst soaring expectations due to his family legacy. While not consistently meeting these expectations, opportunities remain with more games to play. As NFL teams start their evaluations for next year’s draft, Manning’s performance is under scrutiny.
One AFC scout mentioned that Manning might eventually appeal to teams, highlighting that his family name subjects him to different standards. Though not considered the best, his performance flashes offer potential glimpses of future success.
Prospects can significantly impact their draft stock through season appearances and the NFL Scouting Combine. Manning is in a highly competitive draft class featuring quarterbacks like Oklahoma State’s Drew Mestemaker, Miami’s Darian Mensah, Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss, and Notre Dame’s CJ Carr, all ranked higher than him by ESPN.
Manning’s upcoming games present a chance to reshape opinions. After facing Oklahoma in the ‘Red River Rivalry,’ Texas takes on five consecutive ranked opponents, including No. 16 Florida, No. 9 Ole Miss, No. 17 Mississippi State, No. 14 Missouri, and No. 10 LSU.
