Ben Affleck Addresses Nude Scene in ‘Gone Girl’

Ben Affleck has cleared up longstanding speculation regarding a specific scene from his extensive film career. The actor, now 54, confirmed he appeared fully nude in the 2014 thriller Gone Girl, a movie directed by David Fincher and based on a novel by Gillian Flynn.

During a recent interview with Variety, Affleck assured fans that no prosthetics were used in the shower scene. “I wore no prosthesis,” he stated, noting that his only experience with prosthetics was for a nose in the film Hollywoodland.

In Gone Girl, Affleck played Nick Dunne, a writing teacher who becomes the main suspect when his wife, Amy, portrayed by Rosamund Pike, goes missing. Affleck highlighted the director’s careful approach to filming the scene. He recalled being told, “if we tilt down, we’ll never go far enough to see anything,” ensuring the scene would remain tasteful.

Affleck humorously remarked, “I’d like to thank you for keeping the set cool … If you’re gonna have one chance for America to see your junk, you want it to be cold.” This comment was made while receiving an award for the film at the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards.

Reflecting on the experience years later, Affleck told Letterboxd, “I was willing to do anything for [Fincher], like, be naked.” He expressed immense respect for the director, calling working with Fincher a privilege and recognizing him as one of the greatest filmmakers.

Even Affleck’s ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, acknowledged the scene humorously. During an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2014, she playfully commented, “I just try to consider myself a charitable person and I wanted to give back.”
