Alabama Crimson Tide faced a tough loss against Georgia Bulldogs after a critical mistake in the final minutes changed the game’s outcome.
With slightly over two minutes left, Georgia held possession on third-and-2 deep within their own territory. Alabama defensive back Dijon Lee made a pivotal error by grabbing a Georgia player’s jersey and striking him face-first twice. This led to a penalty flag, giving Georgia an automatic first down.
Alabama was without timeouts, allowing Georgia to run down the clock and close out the game. Head coach Kalen DeBoer of Alabama expressed frustration, reportedly telling Lee he “just cost us the d— game.” The heated exchange happened as Lee reached the sidelines, visibly avoiding the confrontation but eventually acknowledging the situation.
During the final moments, Alabama was already pushing for a comeback. Rough defensive plays, including a questionable non-call for pass interference against Georgia, added to the pressure. Shortly after, Alabama’s quarterback Keelon Russell was sacked out of field goal range, eliminating their chance to tie the game with a field goal.
In the end, Alabama had to punt and failed to regain possession, allowing Georgia to secure a 6-0 record with this victory against Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
