Selma Blair, the actor known for roles in films like Cruel Intentions and Legally Blonde, was taken into custody after an incident on a flight from Los Angeles to New York. The event occurred on a Delta Air Lines plane that arrived at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport late Sunday night, as confirmed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Blair, 54, allegedly became physically abusive, leading to injuries to two flight attendants. Authorities stated that upon the plane’s arrival and while it was parked at the gate, police took Blair into custody. Both Blair and one of the flight attendants were escorted to a hospital for evaluation.
The FBI, tasked with investigating assaults on aircraft, chose not to reveal specifics. According to FBI NY spokesman Sydney Kleinmann, it is their policy not to comment on ongoing investigations.
There was no immediate comment from Delta Air Lines regarding the incident. Attempts to reach state and federal prosecutors’ offices for statements were unsuccessful, as were attempts to contact Blair’s publicist.
A representative for Blair stated to different media outlets that a medical emergency was behind the alleged behavior. Blair has been a public advocate for disability rights since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018. In 2023, she marked the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act alongside President Joe Biden at the White House.
This is not the first time Blair has faced issues during a flight. In 2016, she publicly apologized for her behavior on a flight from Cancun to Los Angeles. She admitted to blacking out after mixing alcohol and medication.
