A New York man admitted to murdering and dismembering his ex-girlfriend after their relationship ended. Damon Foy, 50, from Kerhonkson, pled guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Alberta Dale, 44, of Pennsylvania. Foy confessed last week, as reported by the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
Between March 31 and April 1, 2024, Foy committed the crime and was disposing of Dale’s body when he was apprehended. The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office began investigating on April 1, 2024, after receiving concerns from Dale’s family in Pennsylvania.
Initially, deputies performed a welfare check, transitioning into a missing person investigation. The situation intensified when Dale’s phone was discovered on the roadside and handed to the authorities. This led to suspicions of foul play, as noted by the New York Post.
Foy reportedly admitted to the crime, stating, “I killed her,” during the investigation. Subsequently, investigators secured a search warrant for his residence. They discovered Dale’s remains in a suitcase, which contained her severed head and other parts. However, some portions of her body were not found during the search.
Court documents revealed Foy’s confession of having loved Dale and his frustration over their relationship dynamics. Foy expressed feelings of betrayal, citing how Dale had manipulated him.
Inquiries into Foy’s background indicated a history of domestic violence against Dale, including a previous incident involving a gun. Authorities found an axe on Foy’s property during the search.
Dale had previously alerted authorities that Foy might harm her if she went missing, strengthening the seriousness of the charges against him.
Under a plea agreement, Foy is expected to receive a sentence of 23 years to life, which reflects a plea deal with a minimum term shorter than the potential maximum of 25 years to life. This agreement, endorsed by Dale’s family, was confirmed by Chief Assistant District Attorney Liz Culmone-Mills.
The sentencing is scheduled for December 16. The District Attorney Emmanuel C. Nneji emphasized the significance of safeguarding domestic violence victims, advocating for laws that deliver genuine protection.
