President Donald Trump is in excellent health according to a memo from his physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, released by the White House. The memo followed Trump’s visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for his third medical checkup in 13 months. Dr. Barbabella stated that Trump is fit to perform all duties as the Commander-in-Chief.
The comprehensive exams included tests for cardiac function, eye health, and pulmonary function. Most results were normal, although slight swelling in the lower leg and bruising on the hand were noted. These are linked to minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and aspirin use for cardiovascular health.
The memo was issued three days after Trump’s exam. His weight was recorded at 238 pounds, and his resting heart rate at 73 beats per minute. A neurological exam, including cognitive screening, showed normal limits with a perfect score of 30 out of 30. Dr. Barbabella confirmed Trump is on medication for cholesterol and cardiac prevention.
Dr. Barbabella highlighted that the President is up to date on preventive screenings and immunizations. Current routine screenings include cancer checks, cardiovascular risk assessments, and metabolic evaluations. Preventive counseling was also provided, involving advice on diet, low-dose aspirin intake, increased physical activity, and continued weight loss.
In the past year, Trump visited Walter Reed twice, with additional dental appointments in Florida in January and May. At nearly 80, Trump is the oldest individual to assume the presidency. He often asserts his excellent health, stating, “Just finished my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Everything checked out PERFECTLY. Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff!” in a post on Truth Social.
Despite these assurances, speculation about his health persists, fueled by moments of apparent fatigue and a bruised hand. The White House attributes the bruising to frequent handshaking and aspirin use as a blood thinner.
Last year, Trump’s chronic venous insufficiency was disclosed, a condition that impacts circulation and causes leg swelling. In October, following a routine checkup, Trump underwent an MRI that his doctor later specified was a CT scan of his heart and abdomen to rule out cardiovascular issues. Dr. Barbabella noted the scan results were normal.
In April 2025, Dr. Barbabella reiterated that Trump remains in excellent health, showing robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function.
