Selma Blair’s legal troubles have grown after an alleged series of incidents began on a flight from Los Angeles to New York. The actress, known for her roles in Cruel Intentions and Hellboy, was reportedly involved in a situation that escalated to physical confrontation both on the plane and later at a hospital.
According to a criminal court affidavit filed in Queens Criminal Court, Blair is accused of kicking a nurse during a medical transport at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. The document details that Blair allegedly kicked registered nurse Ashley DeLeo in the chest at approximately 2 a.m. ET on October 12, causing significant pain.
“The defendant kicked complainant DeLeo in her chest,” the affidavit stated.
The incident follows Blair’s arrest at JFK International Airport after arriving on Delta Flight 938. Port Authority police responded to call about a “physically abusive passenger.” Two flight attendants suffered injuries, and one required hospital treatment. Blair was arraigned Monday on charges of second-degree assault.
Further allegations involve Blair kicking a police officer, Maria Suarez, while being transferred from JFK Terminal 4. The affidavit describes Blair’s actions as she “removed her leg from the stretcher straps and kicked Officer Suarez repeatedly about the face, neck and chest,” causing swelling and pain.
Delta Airlines issued a statement reinforcing its stance on safety, stating, “Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first.”
Representatives for Blair explained a medical emergency during the flight contributed to the conduct. Blair’s attorney, Shawn Barnes, argued the actions were unintentional and linked to missed doses of medication for neurological symptoms. He described Blair as having worked extensive hours before the flight and suffering a fall onboard.
Blair has publicly discussed her battle with multiple sclerosis, diagnosed in 2018. She was released on bond and is due back in court in January.
Judge Indira Kahn expressed concern about Blair’s risk to others, indicating potential challenges in her upcoming legal proceedings.
