Chicago Bears defensive end Montez Sweat faces a two-game suspension for breaching the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. As Sweat embarks on his eighth NFL season and third with the Bears, he will miss two crucial upcoming games. These are against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6 and New England Patriots in Week 7.
Sweat, aged 30, will return to play on October 23. The NFL has not disclosed the substance that led to his suspension. With the Bears already facing defensive line challenges, Sweat’s absence adds further strain to their lineup.
Recently, Dayo Odeyingbo exited a game against the Green Bay Packers due to a quad injury. As of Monday, head coach Ben Johnson has not given updates on Odeyingbo’s condition.
To strengthen the team, the Bears activated Shemar Turner from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Turner is recovering from a torn ACL sustained in October 2025. Nevertheless, defensive coordinator Dennis Allen expressed skepticism about Turner’s readiness for extensive play in upcoming matches.
Montez Sweat has contributed significantly to the Bears this season, achieving seven tackles and two sacks over five games played. With his suspension, the Bears must strategize to fill the gap in their defense efficiently.
