John Stamos joined the Beach Boys for a special performance at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Before the event, Stamos shared his heartfelt thoughts about Mike Love, who is dealing with significant health challenges. The actor expressed his emotions on social media, referring to Love as his “musical hero and mentor.”
Stamos wrote, “My beloved friend, father figure, musical hero, and mentor, Mike Love, is facing serious health challenges. We hope he’ll be doing what he loves for years, but the future is uncertain. We have tonight.”
At the Hot Cuisine fundraiser for the Scleroderma Research Foundation, Stamos revealed his determination to get Love to the Ryman for a performance he would cherish. “Our goal was to get him up at the Ryman this weekend. He wanted it,” Stamos said. Despite being advised against it by doctors and family, Love insisted on performing. Stamos felt a strong responsibility to help fulfill Love’s wish.
Stamos received the Bob Saget Legacy Award at the event, commending his commitment to scleroderma research and following Bob Saget’s mission to raise awareness. Love’s representation did not provide comments on his health issues, but Love’s son, Brian Love, shared insights before the performance. Brian described his father as stubborn and determined not to miss the Ryman show. “He’s done over 100 concerts annually into his 80s,” Brian noted.
During the concert, Love remained seated and performed alongside his bandmates. He acknowledged his health issues and expressed gratitude for being at the Ryman. At the show’s end, Love was supported by Brian and Stamos as “We Are The Champions” played.
Stamos remarked on social media about Love’s resilience. Despite advice from doctors, family, and friends, Love was determined to perform with his band and live in the moment. Stamos reflected on their 41 years of collaboration, expressing how deeply it affected him to see Love face health challenges.
The Beach Boys continue touring in celebration of their 60th anniversary of the album “Pet Sounds.” Stamos acknowledged that Love’s presence may have changed, but his essence remains unwavering.
“What he’s given me personally is immeasurable,” Stamos wrote. “Forty-one years of stages, laughter, and moments nobody else saw. He married Caitlin and me. He’s shared experiences with my family and my son.”
Stamos emphasized the profound impact Love had on him as a musician and person. Performing at the Ryman, he vowed to savor every moment, treasuring the unique connection they shared on stage. The Beach Boys’ classic hits, including “God Only Knows” and “Good Vibrations,” continue to resonate across generations.
“Tonight, I won’t forget,” Stamos expressed. “We don’t know what tomorrow brings. But we have tonight.”
