NFL hearing officer Derrick Brooks has decided to lessen the suspension of Los Angeles Rams tackle Alaric Jackson. Originally set for two games, Jackson will now only miss one game following an incident with Buffalo Bills’ edge rusher Bradley Chubb.
The altercation took place shortly after the Buffalo Bills claimed a 37-34 overtime victory over the Rams at SoFi Stadium. According to reports, Jackson struck Chubb in the face following the game during the player handshake line.
Jackson alleged that Chubb made inappropriate remarks about his mother during the match. Chubb chose not to respond physically, stating, “They always catch the second guy, so I let him swing, and then my teammates held me back, and I just chilled.”
As a result of the appeal, Jackson saves a significant amount of money. His suspension reduces his forfeiture from two game checks to one, which equates to approximately $934,555 off his $16.8 million base salary.
The suspension means Jackson will not play against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. However, he will be available for the Rams’ Week 7 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The NFL issued a statement indicating that Jackson violated the league’s sportsmanship rules by hitting Chubb after the game’s conclusion. This violation falls under Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which covers actions against the principles of sportsmanship.
Jackson’s history with the NFL includes a previous two-game suspension for unconsented phone recordings in 2024. Additionally, he participated in a diversion program after being arrested on domestic violence charges in June.
