Giants’ Teammates Address Trump’s Rally Choice and Team Dynamics

Abdul Carter, a linebacker for the New York Giants, offered strong words after quarterback Jaxson Dart decided to introduce President Donald Trump at a recent rally. Carter emphasized the implications of Dart’s actions, calling it “bigger than football.” He expressed his concerns publicly, stating, “He not only represents himself and what he does, but he represents all of us and that goes for anybody who wears a Giants uniform.”

Carter elaborated on his stance, asserting his responsibility to speak out both to his teammates and the public. He shared his views on social media after confirming that the video showing Dart with Trump was genuine. Despite their differing views, Carter stated that he and Dart remain amicable, regularly sitting together during team meetings.

Dart released a 562-word statement, stressing the unique opportunity he saw in introducing the president, yet he avoided mentioning Trump by name. When questioned about the potential discomfort his actions may have caused his teammates, Dart referred back to his original statement, choosing not to apologize.

“I don’t want him to say he’s sorry,” Carter remarked. “Stand on what you believe in. But it can’t be a problem when I stand on what I believe in.” He highlighted that maintaining mutual understanding was his priority.

Dart mentioned having honest discussions with teammates, acknowledging the significance of his action. He also emphasized his close relationship with Carter, citing their frequent conversations.

Coach John Harbaugh and veteran quarterback Jameis Winston addressed the situation, emphasizing the importance of unity. Winston spoke about the positive symbolism of two players from different backgrounds coming together. Harbaugh, known for his support of Trump, expressed no concerns about locker room tensions, noting, “It’s not going to affect what kind of football team we are.” He praised open conversations as beneficial for team dynamics.
