Education Secretary McMahon Embarks on Multi-State Tour to Highlight Local Education Control
Education Secretary Linda McMahon is embarking on a four-state tour to champion the Trump administration’s initiative to return education control to local communities. This effort seeks to reduce federal oversight and empower local leaders.
Under the banner of “The Next 250: American Education,” McMahon will articulate her vision for the evolution of American education over the next 250 years. Her goal is to emphasize the administration’s accomplishments and future plans for American students, families, and educators.
Starting in Utah, McMahon will outline efforts to reform K-12 education. Her address will focus on decentralizing education, investing in effective learning practices, and enhancing educational freedom.
“Our decisions prioritize the inherent potential of our children,” McMahon stated. She stressed the importance of reducing government power and ideological influences in education.
Following Utah, the tour will continue to Nevada, Arizona, and Tennessee. In these states, McMahon will discuss workforce training programs, community college Pell Grants, and rising higher education costs.
The tour is part of a broader campaign titled “Returning Education to the States,” which advocates for shifting administrative authority back to local leaders. The Department of Education highlights $3 trillion federal spending, citing a lack of proficiency in math and reading among most American students.
An ED spokesperson pointed out the need for change, stating the administration’s move to empower parents and local leaders is crucial.
President Donald Trump recently supported school choice initiatives alongside McMahon during a White House event. Trump criticized current spending levels and student performance, advocating for educational flexibility.
The administration’s Education Freedom Tax Credit is scheduled for implementation soon, allowing federal tax deductions for contributions to scholarship funds.
The effort is supported by a new partnership between the Department of Education and the Department of the Treasury. Student lending operations will be transferred to the Treasury Department, a significant move toward reducing federal oversight in education.
McMahon, in her role as a mother and grandmother, emphasized the importance of empowering states and parents in education. Her tour is intended to highlight the significant role parents play in their children’s education.
Later, McMahon will conclude her tour in Tennessee. She will focus on rebuilding public trust, revamping administrative oversight, and elevating academic standards, particularly in higher education.
