The Milwaukee Brewers have secured their first World Series game victory since 1982. They triumphed over the Tampa Bay Rays in a tight 3-2 contest. This marks a significant achievement for Milwaukee, as the city has not seen a World Series game win in 46 years.
Early in the game, Christian Yelich hit an RBI triple, and William Contreras followed with a single, giving the Brewers a 2-0 lead. Pitcher Jacob Misiorowski, poised to win the Cy Young Award, delivered a strong performance. He allowed only one run in five innings with help from the Rays’ baserunning errors.
In the ninth inning, the Rays made a final push. They loaded the bases with one out. However, a grounded hit by Liam Hicks initially resulted in a game-ending double play. Replay review revealed Brewers shortstop Cooper Pratt did not touch second base, changing the score to 3-2 with runners on second and third. The Brewers ultimately secured their win after Johnny DeLuca struck out.
Baserunning mishaps occurred on both sides. In the first inning, the Rays ended their threat with a double play. Later, Victor Mesa Jr. was caught stealing third. The Brewers also made a mistake when David Hamilton attempted to stretch a double into a triple.
Brewers’ victory was cemented in part by their effective ‘small ball’ strategy. In the seventh inning, Hamilton advanced a runner into scoring position. Jackson Chourio then drove in a crucial insurance run with a single, pushing the score to 3-1. This strategy of hitting ground-balls and opposite-field shots was more frequently used by Milwaukee than any other team in the league.
As the series continues, Milwaukee plans to start Logan Henderson, while Tampa Bay will counter with Drew Rasmussen. The anticipation for the next game is high as the Brewers aim to capitalize on their momentum.
