Upcoming VA Disability Payments for Veterans
Millions of American veterans will soon receive their monthly disability benefits, offering financial support for injuries or illnesses linked to military service. These tax-free payments are distributed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) based on the severity of service-connected conditions and family dependents. More than six million veterans nationwide collect these benefits.
The payment schedule for November follows the announcement of a 3.6 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2027, which promises increased compensation for eligible veterans. Additionally, the VA reports record claims processing figures for the 2026 fiscal year and a reduction in outstanding claims.
November 2026 Payment Schedule
VA disability benefits are usually distributed on the first day each month, covering the previous month’s entitlement. However, due to November 1 falling on a Sunday, payments for October will be issued on Friday, October 30. Payments for November will be issued on Tuesday, December 1. The last payment of 2026, covering December’s benefits, is scheduled for Thursday, December 31, due to January 1, 2027, being a federal holiday.
Veterans can verify their payment history, including past deposits, through their VA.gov accounts.
Determining VA Disability Benefits
The VA provides tax-free monthly payments to cover physical or mental health conditions resulting from military service. Benefits are assessed through a disability rating, ranging from 10 to 100 percent in increments of 10. Higher ratings result in larger payments. Veterans rated at 30 percent or above may receive extra compensation based on dependents.
- 10 percent rating: $180.42 per month
- 50 percent rating: $1,132.90 per month
- 100 percent rating (no dependents): $3,938.58 per month
Additional compensation may be available, contingent on family circumstances or qualifying disabilities.
COLA 2027 Impact on VA Benefits
Veterans will see a 3.6 percent increase in compensation next year. This adjustment follows the Social Security Administration’s announcement and exceeds the 2.8 percent increase in 2026, marking the largest annual COLA since 2023. VA benefits typically increase alongside Social Security, but require separate congressional approval.
A veteran with a 100 percent disability rating and no dependents could see an additional $141.79 monthly, totaling approximately $1,701 annually. The COLA helps protect benefits from inflation, determined by changes in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W).
If the adjustment gains congressional nod, increased rates will apply from December 1, 2026, with the first adjusted payment on December 31.
Latest Developments from the VA
The VA reported processing a record number of disability claims in fiscal year 2026, surpassing 2025 figures. With over 3,111,399 claims handled, the backlog decreased by over 70 percent and average processing times fell by 46 percent since January 20, 2025.
Claims-processing accuracy has reached 94 percent, the highest in two years. Approximately 60 percent of submitted claims continue to be granted.
VA Secretary Doug Collins stated, “Under President Trump’s leadership, VA is making historic progress to better serve Veterans, evidenced by record-breaking claims processing numbers. We continue focusing on reducing wait times, enhancing healthcare, and expanding VA facilities, prioritizing Veterans.”
