As the Michigan Senate race heats up, Republican Senator Ted Cruz warns of a potential far-left shift if Democrat Abdul El-Sayed wins. Cruz believes that El-Sayed’s victory could significantly impact the Democratic Party’s trajectory.
Cruz’s primary concern is the influence of radical elements within the Democratic Party, which he claims hold substantial power and resources. He suggests a win for El-Sayed might set the stage for figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to pursue higher office, including a presidential run in 2028.
The Texas senator also expresses security concerns. He insinuates that if El-Sayed were given access to classified information as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, it might pose a risk to national security.
“If Abdul El-Sayed becomes the senator from Michigan, there is absolutely nothing to stop Chuck Schumer from placing Abdul El-Sayed on the Senate Intelligence Committee. The Senate Intelligence Committee has access to our most closely-guarded secrets,” Cruz said. He continued, “We have American service men and women in harm’s way fighting Muslim Brotherhood terrorists right now… We have every reason to believe that Abdul El-Sayed, if he found out they’re about to apprehend these terrorists, he would let those terrorists know.”
El-Sayed, however, has denied any ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. In a conversation with Fox News, he stated, “I have never been and never will be a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. I am interested in serving the United States. I’m interested in swearing an oath to the Constitution that every senator has swore an oath to.”
The race sees El-Sayed competing against Mike Rogers, who is backed by former President Donald Trump. Both campaigns have yet to respond to requests for further comments.
The warning from Cruz came during a campaign rally with Rogers in Michigan. As this story develops, both the Republican and Democratic camps continue their push for support as they approach the elections.
