Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Julian Lewis is recovering after experiencing a medical emergency. His father shared this news with the public. The incident occurred while Lewis was at the Buffaloes’ facility on Wednesday. He was swiftly taken to a hospital.
Details on Lewis’s condition remain unspecified, although his father issued a statement on X to address the situation. He expressed gratitude towards the medical staff, teammates, and fans for their support and prayers.
“He is recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates, and Colorado fans for their prayers and support,” wrote T. Carlton Lewis. “Please respect Julian and the Lewis family’s privacy. We will have no further comment at this time.”
In response, Colorado Athletics expressed their support, stating that Lewis’s health and recovery are their main concerns. They assured their ongoing assistance to Lewis and his family during this challenging time.
“Colorado Athletics extends our full support to JuJu and his family through this medical emergency. He remains in the thoughts of every CU player, coach, and staff member, and we will continue to assist in any way we can in his full recovery. His health and well-being remain our top priority during this time,” said the statement.
At 19, Lewis is a sophomore who started the season as the Buffaloes’ quarterback. Head coach Deion Sanders decided to bench him after the first four games. His most recent game was on September 26 against the Baylor Bears, after which junior Isaac Wilson took over.
Wilson’s start has also been underwhelming, as the Buffaloes have yet to secure a win with an 0-3 record since he took charge. Currently, the team stands at 2-5 overall, occupying the last position in the Big 12 with a 0-4 record in the conference.
Before the medical event, Sanders was questioned about possibly reinstating Lewis as the starting quarterback. To this, Sanders emphasized his fairness and insight into team dynamics, expressing a commitment to his players’ futures.
“That’s on him,” Sanders commented via BuffsTV. “I don’t treat people unfairly. I don’t play games with young men and their careers. If I’m anything, I’m too forgiving and very, very kind. We may know more than you do because we’re inside the locker room. We understand what happens.”
This season, Lewis has achieved 733 passing yards, with six touchdowns and two interceptions in his four starts.
