Users of Polymarket experienced panic after reports emerged on Thursday that some wallets had been emptied. This followed an announcement that trading on Polymarket’s international platform was halted for about an hour due to a breach involving a third-party software vendor.
Concerns arose in the platform’s official Discord chat at around 1:30 p.m. when users reported wallets being drained. Polymarket assured affected users would be compensated.
The marketplace operates a separate segment in the U.S., enabling users to place wagers on various events. At approximately 2 p.m., Polymarket shifted to cancel-only mode, permitting cancellation of transactions while halting new trades.
An individual with inside knowledge of the incident, who wished to remain anonymous, explained that the issue involved a performance and debugging tool named DebugBear. The security breach has been reported to authorities in the UK, where DebugBear is located.
DebugBear acknowledged on social media its involvement in an ongoing security issue and advised users of its web-monitoring tools to uninstall them. No immediate comments were available from DebugBear.
