Tom Steyer, a prominent progressive Democrat, aims to tackle California’s housing crisis if he becomes governor. His wealth, accumulated from leading a successful hedge fund in San Francisco, raises concerns among some voters.
Steyer, known for acquiring luxury homes, has a real estate portfolio resembling a high-end magazine spread. In San Francisco, he owns cliff-top mansions with views of the Golden Gate Bridge and a 1909 classical home in a gated community.
His San Francisco high-rise condo offers views of the City Hall dome. North of the city in Marin County, he owns a home near the Pacific Ocean in Stinson Beach.
To the south, in Pescadero, Steyer acquired 11 parcels, creating an 1,800-acre cattle ranch named TomKat, after himself and his wife, Kat Taylor.
Beyond California, Steyer owns a home on Lake Tahoe’s Nevada shore and an apartment on New York City’s Fifth Avenue, including a separate unit noted as a maid’s room.
Records indicate Steyer and related entities own over a dozen homes. His campaign reports that a family friend rents his downtown apartment in the Four Seasons Residences.
